Tablet weaving on an inkle loom with Jackie Pierson
Learn the ancient art of tablet weaving (also called card weaving), using punched cards to create a band that can be used as a strap, a belt, as trim on clothing, and many other things. We will be weaving a pattern called Egyptian Diagonals. This is a fun technique that can be done freehand, allowing you to experiment, or can be done by following a specific pattern. We will try a little of both methods in class.
Looms and cards will be provided, but we ask that you bring your own yarn. A good inexpensive choice for your first project is Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread. You will need two colors with a lot of contrast such as navy blue and yellow, or black and white. This will create a beautiful striped pattern with an almost 3-D effect.
Bring scissors and small shuttles if you have them. Bring lunch and a beverage. Location: Oatland Island, 2nd floor fiber studio.
