A Taste of Fair Isle Knitting

April 27 and May 4

12:30pm-3:30pm (six hours total)

Oatland Island Wild Life Center

Betsy Rickenbacker

Fair Isle knitting is a traditional knitting technique that uses multiple colors to create patterns. This technique is also referred to as stranded color work. There are many patterns  and designs using two or more colors. Here is your chance to learn! After a brief history of Fair Isle Knitting, students will learn  a two-color yarn cast on, followed by two color Latvian braid.  Participants also learn to catch the yarn floats in the back with both the dominate and non-dominant yarn. Students will complete a beautiful hat in two colors of their choice.

Pre-requisite: Students should know how to cast on, knit and purl.

Betsy Rickenbacker started knitting when she was 7 years old and in the Brownies.  In high school, she made money knitting miniskirts and selling them to her classmates. Fast forward after many years of knitting Fisherman Sweaters, hats and shawls for family and friends, Betsy now works and teaches knitting at a local yarn store.

This class is the second in a series of knitting class to be offered as A Taste of Class. Please note this class meets for 2 days.
