A Taste of Embroidery
A Taste of Embroidery
Do you love working with your hands? Give hand embroidery a try! It is such a rich and exciting fiber arts skill to learn and to explore! This fiber art form can be traced back to antiquity and in cultures all over the world.
In this class you will learn the basics, of choosing fabrics, floss, needles, and transferring patterns. While learning seven basic stitches, you will create a beautiful sampler. With these seven stitches, you will be able to create beautifully embroidered wall art or embellish clothing.
Margarete Froelicher, our instructor, retired from teaching German language, literature, and culture at the university. As a child growing up in Germany at the end of WW11, her mother kept her busy learning to knit, crochet and sew. Materials were scarce and nothing was wasted. Old worn out clothing could be altered or embellished to create new clothing or repurposed for other useful items.
After a busy life and the passing of her husband, Margarette developed her own kind of fiber art pieces. She finds inspiration for her wall hangings and objects of art in nature while on walks and in her garden. She finds new joy in weaving, and felting. She is intrigued and inspired by the beauty of nature around her. The photo in the heading is an example of Margaret’s beautiful wall hangs.
