Rag Rug Weaving Workshop with Amy Hanson
Rag Rug Weaving Workshop with Amy Hanson
Join in on the rag rug weaving fun! If you already know how to wind a warp and dress a loom, then this is the class for you! Amy will teach you tips and tricks for weaving nice, tight rag rugs that will last a long time.
You will need to use a loom that is in the studio and warp it ahead of time. Amy will send you directions for winding the warp and dressing the loom, which must be done prior to the class. You can come to the studio anytime that Oatland is open, and Amy is available for warping help. You will need to order 8/4 cotton rug warp. Amy will let you know how much you need and where to order, and you can choose your colors.
Once you sign up for class, start collecting fabric for your weft. We will cut them together on our first day of class. Cotton sheets from thrift stores work well. If you Lewis to make a bathmat or door mat, old terrycloth towels are great. If you want to buy cotton fabric, be sure that the design is visible on the back as well as the front. lAnd if you want to throw some thick wool yarn in your rug as well, bring that along as a complement to the rag weft.
