Taste of Dyeing with Alter Ego Dyes
Taste of Dyeing with Alter Ego Dyes
Have you have ever wanted to dye with 2 colors but only had one
dye pot? Split personality? Do you have a hard time choosing
which color to use? This Taste of class is for you! Alter ego dyes
react to different colors with different fibers. They are usually used
on mixed fibers such as silk/linen, silk/hemp, silk/viscose etc. to
achieve bicolored effects. Especially suited for Devore-burnout
fabrics. Often the design in relief is made of viscose and the
frame is made of silk. These means that one dye pot can be
used to dye 2 different colors on the same material! How cool it
that!
Cecelia Ridge will lead us as we experiment with Alter Ego dyes.
Students will learn about the dye and how to set up a dye pot.
After some test runs students will choose their favorite. Each
participant will leave with several test strips, directions for making
a pot, knowledge of the chemistry and a beautifully dyed DeVore
silk scarf.
Cecelia is a long-time member of the Guild. We look forward to
seeing her beautiful silk painted items at our show every year!
